Selling or Pawning an Android Phone

March 09, 2020 - Electronics

About 51% of smartphone users are running Android on their device.

That’s about 900 million people. Why do these people love Android so much? Well, it’s for a couple of reasons. Android has more apps, choice, variety, and freedom. For those reasons, pawn shops love buying and selling Androids. If you have an Android you would like to pawn or sell, here are a few tips to help you get top dollar for your Android.

Like I said before, people like Androids for  many of reasons. One of those reasons is Android offers variety. There are many different Android devices out there, each with a different hardware and software configuration, from many different companies. Include specific instructions for every phone would be a daunting task So I’m going to offer you some advice that applies to all Android phones, and then details on a few popular ones. If your Android phone isn’t on here, don’t worry – PawnGuru will find a pawn shop that will buy your phone for you.

Backup and Wipe all information

Make sure you store all your photos, music, contacts and other information. Then wipe out all that information from your Android and restore it to the original factory settings. You don’t want the next owner of your Android to have any of that information.

Remove your SIM card

Most phones have SIM cards to access a cellular network. If your phone has a removable back, chances are the SIM card is visible once the back cover and/or battery are removed. If your SIM card is not there or you don’t have a removable back, it is sure to be in a slot on the edge of your phone.

IMEI Check

Make sure that your phone is paid for before you try to pawn or sell it. Pawn shops will do an IMEI check to make sure the phone isn’t stolen and is paid off. If the Android you are trying to pawn or sell is not paid off in full, your Android will be blocked from being able to be activated on any cellular network and is of no value to pawn shops.

Packaging & Accessories

If you have any of the original packaging and accessories that came with the your Android phone, bring those along with you. Bring accessories like the charger, case, or touch screen pen; these are essential to ensuring that you get the highest price possible for your Android phone. Take a look at the table below to see how much pawn shops are offering our PawnGuru customers for the most popular android phones.
