Maybe we already have a few that we bought recently. Maybe there were a few more before that.
At some point, we have to cut the chord and separate ourselves from a few pairs of our sneakers. Don’t throw them away unless you know they’re not of much value. Most people who appreciate sneakers treat them well, making them a perfect item to resell.
Learning how to pawn sneakers can be a valuable skill for the shoe lover. Here’s how to make money selling your old sneakers.
Even the greatest shoe-lover still wears the sneakers that they buy. That means there’s going to be some wear and tear affecting your shoes you’ll need to address before you pawn them.
You’ll need to take care of the smell, the laces, and the sole. We’ll cover those things in the following sections.
There are a lot of different ways to clean a shoe that you wouldn’t think of. It’s important to use some method to add a little sparkle to the shoe before you bring it in. You want it to look like it did the day you bought it. Nail polish remover, erasers, a dab of water, baking soda, and toothpaste are all great options for removing scuffs from shoes.
Grab a hand-towel and one of these items and give a light, circular scrub to the outside of the shoe. Try and get off any blatant marks, as well as the coating of dirt or dust caked on the outside of the shoe.
Make sure that you replace the laces if they’re bad. There’s a certain amount of wear and tear that won’t make much of a difference, but buying a two dollar pair of shoelaces might earn you ten dollars more at the pawn shop.
You should also try and replace the sole if there are any blatant faults in it. Any holes, tears, or discolorations might have an effect on the price that you get. Finally, make the shoe smell nice at the time that you pawn it.
Even if this means squirting a little Febreeze in there before walking into the store, anything helps. Remember, it’s not the market price of the shoe that you receive when you go into a pawn shop. You receive less than the market value, weighed against what the pawnbroker sees. The nicer the shoe looks, the more the broker will get when he or she sells it.
This means that whatever you can do to improve the condition of your shoe will boost your earnings. Walking out with more cash is the goal. The best way to make money off of your old sneakers is to make them look new.
There are plenty of things laying around your house that you can turn into cold hard cash. You get rid of some clutter and you get paid for it.
