How Long Pawn Shops Hold Onto Items

January 11, 2020 - Pawn Resources

Each pawn shop operates differently.

However, in this post, we will tell you on average how much time you have before a pawn shop will put your valuables up for sale in their pawn shop or online.

Perhaps you’re wondering how long a pawn shop holds items before selling them off because you sold something outright to a pawn shop near you. Or maybe you’re considering pawning something because you need cash right now and you want to make sure you can pay your loan back quickly enough to get your item back.

Whatever the case may be, we suggest you follow the advice in this post for two reasons. One is to find out how long your local pawn shops old onto items in your local area specifically, because laws vary from state to state and each pawn shop is different.

The other reason is because once you decide to pawn or sell something, it will be helpful for you to know the quickest and easiest way to go about doing that for the most money possible. And we’ll tell you how.

How to Find Out How Long Pawn Shops Hold Items Before Selling in Your Local Area

The best way to find out how long pawn shops hold items in your local area is by calling up the shop. Again, the pawn shop may hold onto your item for a different length of time than another one because of different policies, etc.

If you want a list of pawn shops in your area to call, refer to our pawn shop directory which allows you to type in your zip code and search for the best nearby pawn shops.

This will also help you if you can’t remember which pawn shop you’ve used, and you’re trying to locate it.

How Long Pawn Shops Hold Items Before Selling On Average

While it does vary from shop to shop, pawn shops hold onto items an average of 30 days before selling them. In some cases, pawn shops will offer a grace period afterward if you can’t pay back your loan in time, but this does depend on the shop.

Typically, if an item has been pawned, the pawn shop will hold the item longer than if it was sold outright in what pawn shops refer to as a “buy.”

So what does all this mean? You truly do need to contact the individual pawn shop to ask what their terms are. Otherwise, your item might find another home.

my pawnbroker claimed falsely I had not renewed or bought back my gold coin within 9 months whereas I was just within the 5 month expiry date on the slip but I,m probably going to get no compensation as i,m in Bangkok.
legal action is too expensive.
