Pawn or Sell An Item

That’s a whole lot of money! This is likely because kids are constantly growing out of their equipment after the season is over. What do you do with old equipment such as used cleats?

Well, if they’re in decent condition, you can pawn them.

How to Pawn Used Cleats

It may seem like a stretch to say that you could make some money off of that pile of old, stinky cleats laying in the basement closet. You may be right, but there’s a good chance you’re wrong. Here’s how you can get the most value from your used cleats.

Wipe Down the Cleats

Get all noticeable scuffs and scratches off by rubbing down the shoe with a damp towel and some nail polish. In a pinch, you can also use a light amount of toothpaste, baking soda with water, or anything else that you have used to clean fabrics.

Cleats are different than most shoes in the sense that they are typically pretty worn. If the outside of your cleat still looks salvageable, there’s a good chance that you’ll be able to sell it somewhere.

Next, you’ll want to make sure the laces look good. If they’re torn or worn, it may be a good idea to replace the laces with some clean ones.

Finally, you’re going to want to change out the sole of the shoe for a clean one. Athletic shoes and cleats are very stinky, and no one wants to be in contact with old smelly shoes. Doing these simple things will have a surprising effect on the look of your shoes and you’ll be more likely to sell them.

Where to Sell

There are a couple of options for getting those cleats off of your hands. It’s difficult to say where you’d get the best value, but you’re going to have the best luck at a pawn shop or a used sporting goods store.

In any case, make sure that you clean and replace any damaged elements of the shoe. Bring your item into the pawn shop and see what they offer you. It might be tempting to take the first offer you get, but you might not want to do that.

If you’ve got a little time, you should hop around to the different pawn shops in your area and get quotes from the different stores. An element of the price you get is up to the discretion of the pawnbroker, so you might catch someone on a good day and get more money.

You Can Pawn a Lot Of Things

If you’ve got a lot of old sports equipment or anything else that could hold value, try bringing it into a pawn shop. There’s no telling how much you could make.
