That’s right. And serious collectors are willing to pay up to hundreds and thousands of dollars for them!

So if you’ve got some stamps in your hands either because you’re a collector yourself or it was passed down onto you, consider finding out how much they are worth. You never know who could be looking for them.

Below is a short and easy guide on how to sell stamps.

How to Sell Stamps

There are a couple of ways to check the value of stamps. You can check in a stamp catalog, request help from the American Stamp Dealers Association, or look for an official stamp dealer. Let’s go into each of them.

1. Stamp Catalogs

The easiest way to find out the price of your stamps is probably through a stamp catalog. They are books printed by official publishers containing all kinds of information on stamps such as its origin, printing date, historical significance, and price. They can be purchased by anybody either in bookstores or online.

The trick, of course, is to figure out which stamp catalog you need if you don’t have any information on your stamps.

2 Serious Stamp Collectors

If you don’t know anything about your stamps, the next best idea would be to ask someone who has experience in collecting stamps. And we don’t just mean your neighbor who has a few stamps.

We mean someone who’s had experience in philately, someone who spends a lot of time buying and looking at stamps themselves.

The best way to do this? Ask around!

You’ll be surprised to find out who is a stamp collector. Even if this person doesn’t know a lot about your particular stamps, they should be able to tell you just by looking at them whether they are worth pursuing or not.

3. Official Stamp Dealers

If you were able to confirm that your stamps have serious value or maybe you weren’t able to find anyone to look at your stamps, you can try to find an official stamp dealer to look at them. This is also known as an “appraisal” and you usually have to pay a small fee.

Official dealers can be found in pawnshops that deal with stamps or through the American Stamp Dealers Association (ASDA). Just make sure you do your own research on who the stamp dealer is and what their experience is in stamp dealing before you hand them over.

Selling Your Stamps

If your stamps prove to be of value, you can either try to sell stamps online, at a pawnshop, or through a dealer. Keep in mind that pawn shops are resellers and will offer less than face value for your stamps.
