Two years ago, the Super Pawn in Hammond Indiana opened for business.
Since then, they’ve become recognized as one of the most successful pawn shops in Lake County. Manager Brad Levin helps with online marketing and has been using sites like Ebay, Swappa, and more recently PawnGuru, to help grow the business. Now recently they’ve been recognized as a Top Shop by PawnGuru users.

“Know what you need, not what you can get.”
“We are a family owned shop,” Levin said. “We care about our customers, so we do what we can to help them out. Other pawn shops, such as big corporate ones, have strict guidelines on how much they give out on a loan.”
When money gets tight, and you need gas to get to work, a few dollars will do the trick. Super Pawn has provided loans as low as $5. Most customers who’ve taken these gas-money loans return a few days later and they become loyal customers.
“Know what you need, not what you can get,” Levin advises first-timers. “If you only need $200, don’t take the $500 because it’s harder to pay back. If you take a loan on an item, we want to make sure you can get that item back.”
A guy once came into the shop with a $200 ring and he needed a $200 loan. Normally, most pawn shops never give a loan equal to an item’s full value, but Super Pawn did it anyway. A month later this customer returned to pay back the loan. “We do whatever we can in order to help the customer,” Levin says.
As the go-to tech guy at the shop at the shop, Levin is psyched about PawnGuru. “It’s a new way to reach a customer base that you wouldn’t have known about before. And it’s a good way for customers to reach out to shops,” Levin said.
