4 Tips for Selling Your Playstation 4

January 30, 2020 - Electronics

80% of American households contain a gaming console. Odds are, you’re among that number.

It can be hard to keep up with the constant updates to gaming console technology, though. It seems like every minute a new version of your favorite console is released.

For instance, Sony is on the verge of releasing its PlayStation 5. That means your PlayStation 4 is on its way out.

Want to make a few extra bucks on your PS4 before the market becomes oversaturated? Read on for everything you need to know on pawning PS4 to make room for PS5, and where to find the best PlayStation 4 pawn shop.

1. Initialize Your PS4

“Initializing” your PlayStation 4 is simply fancy talk for wiping its data. Before you take your PS4 to a pawn shop, you’ll want to erase all your personal data from the device.

This is to protect you from a stranger getting access to your information. It’s also to make sure the device is fresh and clean for its next life. Secondhand purchasers appreciate the feeling of starting a new gaming console from scratch.

2. Clean the Exterior

Pawn shop PS4 prices depend upon the shape your PS4 is in. If it’s all dinged up and covered in stickers, it’s likely your console won’t fetch as great a price as a clean one will.

Even if some scratches can’t be removed, do your best to make your PS4 nice and shiny. Buff out any scuffs, and take off sticker residue with Goo Gone or another sticker removing liquid.

3. Dust the Inside

Your pawn shop PS4 price will also depend on how clean the interior of your PS4 is. Grab a screwdriver and take off the outer casing to get to the inside to clean it.

Buy a bottle of compressed air to clean out stubborn dust from the inside of the console. Make sure to pay special attention to the fan, since pawn shops pay special attention to these to assess the quality of your console.

Taking the time to clean the interior will really up your PS4 pawn shop value.

4. Gather Accessories

Once your console itself is ready to go, make sure to gather all the accessories before you bring it in. You’ll want to bring the power cord to show the pawn shop the console turns on alright.

Some pawn shops won’t take a console without its accessories, while others are more open to the idea. Here are the basic accessories you should be sure to bring with you:

  • PS4 power cord
  • Controllers
  • Controller power cables
  • HDMI cable

Since PS4 controllers don’t operate through external batteries, their power cords are especially important to bring with you to the pawn shop.

Your PlayStation 4 Pawn Shop Awaits

Are you ready to ditch your PlayStation 4 to make room for the incoming PlayStation 5? The PS5 is slated to come out during late 2019 or early 2020, so expect a big rush of gamers selling their old consoles.
